The Granites Lose Their First Match Of The Season
Published Mar 11, 2020

The first match of the 2020 Spring UPSL season for us was a disappointment losing 7-1 to a very good and experienced Seas Jamaica FC team. Our young squad will have to use this loss as a learning game on what not to do in league play.

This result is particularly disappointing after such a successful pre-season where we had good results in training friendlies and the acquisition of some additional new young talent in the squad.

The catalyst to this loss on the day was losing 2 soft goals early which changed the complexion of the game before we even had a chance to settle. The experience of Seas took full advantage of some naivety in our defense which is something that we will have to address in training.

We went into the break down 3-0 with a chance to turn things around in the 2nd half, but that 2nd half started much the same as the 1st half as we gave up another 2 quick goals then a third and all of a sudden we were 5-0 down with a mountain to climb to get anything out of this match.

We were not without our own chances that were largely squandered including a saved penalty later in the half. We did get a good goal from Benjamen Badibanga after he fought hard for possession in the box and ended up slotting in under the Seas goalkeeper with a determined effort to snatch a goal back midway through the 2nd half.

But on the day, this is obviously a result that dented our path toward our expectations. We have a BYE in the coming week and that off time will be an opportunity for us to regroup and restart out season on a positive on our return. Our supporters should see a different team on our return to competitive UPSL play in a fortnight.
